It is estimated that nearly 75% of adults experience some amount of fear regarding visiting a dentist. All our dentists at West Grande Prairie Dental are trained in sedation, and all the options we have available for you. If your dental anxiety is causing you to neglect your dental health, pick up the phone and call us to find out how we can help you overcome these fears. We welcome patients to come for a simple no-charge visit to familiarize you with the office or if your anxiety is more extensive, we have sedation options that we will discuss with you.
Nitrous oxide is a common sedation method for patients that are younger or adults that have mild dental anxiety. Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas is a safe and effective form of sedation that has a calming affect, allowing the dentist to work faster and for longer periods of time.
The patient inhales the nitrous oxide through a nosepiece, patients can fully relax with a feeling of weightlessness, these effects only last while the nitrous is being inhaled.
We recommend using nitrous oxide for a child’s first 2 – 3 treatment appointments as these are fundamental appointments for them becoming comfortable being at the dental office and getting treatment.
Oral sedation involves the use of sedative drugs, taken in pill or liquid form that relieve anxiety and fear by calming any nerves you may have. Proper use of oral sedation is safe and simple – taking the oral sedation pill before your dental appointment.
Many patients use IV Sedation to ease dental anxiety, making you feel calm and comfortable during your dental procedure. As always, our primary concern at West GP Dental is your safety and comfort, during your sedated procedure our team will carefully watch your heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels.
